Just another of those albums I’d not played in awhile —- kinda forgot about — but I did like so very much in order to have purchased — so out it came again yesterday and I was surprised…it should be heard more by more! So in my little humble effort to promote lost goodies or forgotten gems here is the Wednesday Remembers selection for the Flimwell Papers’ Music Corner!
I suffered badly one night at the hands of Mr. Knopfler —- damn we waited all night for them to play just this song — my running buddy JS and I were bellowing him for it…..then they did a cheesy version in an encore! It scared me — I never bought another Dire Straits album — it’s tough for a bad that has to play song that get almost too popular. So with that in mind I was listening to my copy of this one again…brilliant and I can fall in love with it all over again now it’s blaring at us from every audio orifice! The Tuesday Songs We Need To Revisit selection of the Flimwell Papers’ Music Corner! Peace to y’all!
Just a talkin’ Blues if you will packed Mr. Dupree’s rolling piano along with the usual suspects — of double entendres and the like…but a seminal recording if you will as some allege it’s a perfect fountain head for Rap! Hey whatever fits and works is fine with me. I saw him do this tune in around ‘67 and it was in real old fashioned kind of pub in Halifax…and he weren’t even playing….he did a number or three for us but then returned to talking to his pals. wild…..
This the Monday Got the Blues selection from the Flimwell Papers’ Music Corner. I loved Jack! And there is a plaque to him in the U.K. in two towns…..but I know of none in the U.S.
Come On Up To The House~ Willie Nelson (w/ Lukas Nelson and Sheryl Crow)
Uncle Tom Waits does the duty on this one, song writing wise, but it’s the subtle delivery here by Willie and with Sheryl Crow sounding her most spontaneous in aeons which makes this one! It’s a fine new one to this ol’Geezer’s ears and one worthy of sippin’ bourbon and branch reflective mood time….
It’s the Friday We Got New Tunes selection from the Flimwell Papers’ Music Corner.
So the Thursday selection from the Flimwell Music Papers is a to join the big birthday today of His Bobness. Many Happy Returns to you, Bob! I know I’ve postedup this one before but it’s truly one of the ones others miss in the tribute rolls and I love listening to it now — saw him do it live in the Rolling Thunder — from this POV too! Bless yah all — sending this out to all the great Goddesses of Tumblr…you are muses, artists, lovers, true friends, mothers, sisters, siblings, wives and Goddesses who make it a world to be in! So
Just a treat to listen to, aeons ago I saw him play under the name Dollar Brand and his music was fresh, joyous and alive new voice in Jazz! The name change or realization didn’t change the music on iota. Still one giants of the Jazz keyboards to my thinking and listening. Listen and you’ll catch a smile of sun splash for your day.
Just one of the best songs of it’s era and it’s genre —- to me Pop music is as fine an edge to write in as what Muddy did or what Mr. Waits does…..The Brothers Gibb were up there with Lennon and McCartney. Perhaps not as deep a file but truly gifted song crafters to be sure. RIP Robin Gibb and thank you for the music!
