Winterlong ~ Pixies
Going to change the deck here on Tuesdays. While having me blood drawn and then painted all over the walls at Kings yesterday, I was listening to an old mixtape — I hear there back in vogue but of a digital making now — of great covers. I’d forgotten how this song hit me out of a long winters sleep over a broken heart left in hinterland of south-central Ontario. On this fine “B” side the country-rockin’ original becomes a surf-pop romance in the Boston indie heroes’ version, buoyed by the boy-girl harmonies of Black Francis and Kim Deal.
